Low energy day?

A few tips from us to turn things around...

Thanks to the time change, are you feeling blue? Us, too!

If your house is anything like ours this week, the littles are waking an hour earlier than usual (time change?!). Ugh. Add to this the shorter Autumn days and any lingering exhaustion from staying up a mite too late during half-term and voila! A low-energy day. So, what can we do to right the ship? Here are a few tips which worked for us and may just do the trick for you...

Vitamins! So, this one's obvious. Take your Vitamin D! Actually, with all the germs floating about, take a multivitamin, instead. We're loving our Swisse-brand vitamins. Checking the label, they contain caffeine for some odd reason--so, be sure to take these before noon.

Sunshine. So, a sun-filled holiday would be dreamy at the moment, but those long-haul winter-sun flights don't exactly agree with the school schedule, do they? So, import a dose of sunshine. Buy a SAD lamp (seasonal affective disorder) and turn it on at your desk for 20-30 minutes a day. We did and we noticed a difference soon after plugging in, but most telling is that we often find a sunglass-clad 6 year old in front of the lamp. He loves it--apparently, it makes him feel sunnier. Who's to argue with that?

A Workout. 20 minutes of cardio goes a long way. Do more if you can, but perfect's the enemy of good. Doing something positive for yourself early will help you to make better choices throughout the day.

Spread Happiness. Anger and happiness spread like germs. Not feeling so happy or positive? Fake it 'til you make it. Smiling sends a happy message to our brains and any happiness we inspire in others will boomerang back to us. Send a happy note or email to a friend. Smile and say hello to others you pass on the walk. Do an anonymous good deed for a friend. A little happy goes a long way.

If our little ones seem a bit off kilter this week, maybe they're suffering some of the same? All of the above may prove effective for littles, too...we find that Cosmic Kids Yoga is a great resource for times like these when it's a bit too dark and cold for a trip to the park or playground after the school run.

Bumble Box kits are designed to bring families together. We catch animals' footprints in the sand, give the trees a shake to see what's living in there, host a Family Olympics, plant a fairy garden, race homemade boats in the stream...you get the drift. Together, we'll make it through your family-time bucket list.
